Cedar Ridge Middle School is a middle school located in Decatur, Alabama, in the Decatur City Schools school system. It has approximately 700 students enrolled and teaches grades 6 through 8. The schools mascot, once the Cubs, is now the Black Bears. This change was instituted in order to match Austin High School.
It is one of three middle schools in the city, the others being: Brookhaven Middle School and Oak Park Middle School. These three are the only middle schools in the state of Alabama to offer the IB Middle Years Programme.

Cedar Ridge has nearly 300 students in the Band program, with one band per grade (6th, 7th, and 8th). Two concerts (Christmas and Spring) are held each year and include a performance from all three bands. Besides these, Cedar Ridge also has a Jazz Band and Stage Band. Students in the 7th or 8th grades audition for these bands at the beginning of each school year. These bands have special performances outside of those of the regular three bands. The Jazz Band plays at numerous events both at the school and in the community throughout the year and the Stage Band has two major performances each year at the Decatur Mall. Cedar Ridge also has a Pep Band which comprises students in both Jazz and Stage Bands. This band performs at several school related sporting events throughout the year.
Cedar Ridge bands in grades 7 and 8 perform at both Regional, and State competitions. On March 5, 2009, both 7th and 8th grade bands made a superior rating on competition pieces, with both bands receiving straight ones, the highest rating given. This is a major accomplishment. In order to hear the competition pieces, visit the band's website and follow the boxes on the left side of the screen.
Cedar Ridge has a large Chorus program for all three grades. You can try out, in seventh and eight grade, for a special group called Ensemble. This group is an elite choral group and joins the Stage Band and Jazz Band on a trip in April every year. In April 2009 they will be going to St. Louis, MO. Also, the entire chorus has two concerts a school year. One is in winter and one is in spring. The 7th and 8th grade choruses participate in District Competition and choruses from Cedar Ridge have made it to State Competition in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
At the end of each year the Jazz Band, Stage Band, and Choral Ensemble plan a major trip in addition to their other musical activities. Most recently this has been to New Orleans, LA in 2010 and St. Louis, MO in 2009.
